Rupshu is a little known land which has been lately opened to foreign visitors. Lying on the eastern margins of ladakh the area which is an extension of tibet's cahng tang plains is predomonantle high and dry desert land, dissected by numerous mountain ridges and traversed by a number of ancient trading routes. There are permanent settlements in the principal valleys of rupshu but majority of the inhabitants are the nomadic Cahngpas of the Tibetan origin. We drive to manali and further to keylong which assists for acclimatisation setting the trek from brandy nallah over the marangla the trek passes through vast valleys, deep gorges and barren high plateau of Chang tang almost the entire route is above 4,000m with lovely meadow campsites stunning scenery isolated villages and fascinating encounters with Changpas making this undoubtedly one of the best trek. We conclude our trek at Tsomorari lake.
