This classic trail is of two treks combined into one.the first half is from Lamayuru to Padam and second half from Padam to Darcha. Each half can be operated in either direction. This challenging trek passes through the Zanskar range and the remote kingdom of Zanskar, after flying to Leh we spend three days on programe of Acclimatisation and local monasteries before setting to the Lamayuru gompa. The first two days of trek are gentle and then starts getting strenuous as the rail winds its way over the passes such as Singgela. We now traverse alandscape where vast valleys and soaring mountains dwarf the tiny villages, still practicing the ancient forms of Buddhism, the people are strong and hard working. After meeting the trail which runs parallel to the Zanskar river finally meeting it just below the tiny village at Hanumil it then follows a wide flat valley to Padam, the head quarters of Zanskar past Karsha Gompa. The second half of the trek from Padam continues south - east along the Tsarap river to the magnificent gompa at Phuktal. We follow tsarap river upto Lakong below Shingola( 5,090m) , the number of villages increase with walk into the valley. The scenery is wild and magnificent with great cliffs of beautiful colored rock flanking the valley, reach Darcha and from here drive to Keylong.
