This is
an ambitious exploratory
trek which traverses over
the glaciated Kangla pass(
5,450m) into the zanskar
valley. And is the only
trek joining the two arid
regions and the trip starts
out with a spectacular
drive into lahaul valley
over Rohtang la trekking

Rupshu
is a little known land
which has been lately
opened to foreign visitors.
Lying on the eastern margins
of ladakh the area which
is an extension of tibet's
cahng tang plains is predomonantle
high and dry desert land,
dissected by numerous
mountain
The Zanskar
range in large part marks
the divide and Tibet.
Running broadly north-
west to south -east it
offers few points of passage.
Up north between Spiti
and Ladakh, where an off
shoot connects the himalaya
and the zanskar ranges
,are two high passes crossing
from the upper parechu
to the main spiti valley.

Chitkul
is the last village in
the baspa valley, at the
upper limits of tree line,
it is chilly, wind- swept
even in early autumn.
It is 24km from sangla
and the starting point
for most of the treks
including kailash Parikrama,
Har Ki Doon and Bhagirathi
